MIDI & DMX Mapping

Lumentrace supports two external input methods for control mapping: MIDI and DMX input. Both let you bind hardware controls to Lumentrace parameters.

What can be mapped

TargetTypeBehaviour
PresetButtonApplies the preset on a rising-edge trigger (value > 0)
Fixture attributeContinuousMaps the input range to the attribute's full DMX range. Attributes: intensity, pan, tilt, zoom, focus, iris
Fixture offsetContinuousMaps the input range to the pan or tilt offset (±100%)

MIDI mapping

Open Setup → Open Settings... → MIDI Remotes.

Setup

  1. Enable the MIDI toggle.
  2. Select your MIDI input device from the dropdown. Click Refresh to rescan devices.
  3. Click Learn next to a target, then move a control on your MIDI device. The binding is captured automatically.
  4. Click Clear to remove a binding.

Supported input types

  • CC (continuous control): values 0–127
  • Note On/Off: triggers on note-on (velocity > 0)

MIDI Pitch Bend is not supported.

DMX input mapping

Open Setup → Open Settings... → DMX Remotes.

Network configuration (required first)

DMX input requires a control universe to be configured in Network settings. Open Setup → Open Settings... → Network and set:

  • Control Protocol: Art-Net or sACN
  • Control Universe: the universe carrying the control signal

Save the network settings. The DMX Remotes page will show the configured protocol and universe.

Setup

  1. Enable the DMX Input toggle.
  2. Click Learn next to a target. Lumentrace takes a snapshot of the incoming frame.
  3. Move the fader or control on your DMX source. Lumentrace detects the channel with the largest change (threshold: 30 DMX units) and binds it.
  4. Click Clear to remove a binding.

DMX values 0–255 are scaled to the same 0–127 range used internally.
