Calibration

Calibration maps positions on your camera feed to pan/tilt DMX values for the fixture. The result is a calibration mesh.

Open Setup → Calibration... (Ctrl+Shift+C).

Prerequisites:

  • The video feed is live on the canvas.
  • At least one fixture is patched (see Patching Fixtures).
  • DMX output is enabled.

Step 1 — Build the mesh

The mesh defines the stage geometry as seen by the camera.

  1. Click Start Mesh.
  2. Click anywhere on the feed to add a point. Add points at the corners and across the stage area — minimum 3, more points means more accuracy.
    • Drag a point to adjust its position on the feed.
    • Right-click a point to delete it.
  3. Click Finish Mesh. Lumentrace computes the mesh transform automatically.

Step 2 — Start calibration

  1. Select the fixture in the calibration panel.
  2. Click Start Calibration (shown as Edit Calibration if the fixture was calibrated before).
  3. Click each mesh point in the calibration overlay to select it. For each selected point, physically drive the fixture so its beam lands on that position on stage. Lumentrace captures the live pan/tilt values.
  4. Repeat for all points.
  5. Once all points are recorded, click Finish Calibration.

Step 3 — Assign and verify

In the Layout panel (bottom row), assign the fixture to a tracker using the Tracker dropdown in Table View, or by drawing an assignment line in Plan View.

Move the tracker on the canvas inside the video feed — the fixture should follow accurately.

For fine adjustments, apply per-fixture pan and tilt offsets in the Fixture Settings tab of the Tracking Settings panel. See Pan/Tilt Offsets.

Common issues:

SymptomLikely cause
Fixture off by a fixed offset everywhereOne point has wrong values — re-record it
