Download

Download the latest release from lumentrace.app/download.

Two separate installers are available:

Lumentrace — the main console app
Lumentrace Client — the remote operator app (see Client installation)

macOS

Open the .dmg file.
Drag Lumentrace to your Applications folder.
First launch — because Lumentrace is distributed directly (not through the App Store), macOS Gatekeeper verifies it the first time. When you first double-click, the icon will bounce in the Dock for up to 30–60 seconds while macOS scans the app bundle. Do not force-quit during this — let it finish. Quitting early cancels the scan, and you'll need to repeat the process.

Once the scan completes, macOS will block the app. Unblock it based on your macOS version:
- macOS 14 Sonoma and earlier: right-click (or Control-click) the app in Applications, choose Open, then Open again in the dialog.
- macOS 15 Sequoia / macOS 26 Tahoe: go to System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway, then confirm. Double-click the app again to launch it.
You only do this once. After that the app opens normally with a double-click.

Still won't open? Run this in Terminal — it's the guaranteed fix for any Gatekeeper quarantine issue:

After that, double-click opens it normally.
On first run macOS may prompt for permissions — allow both:
- Local Network — required for Art-Net and NDI discovery.
- Camera — required if you are using a local USB or built-in camera.

Updating on macOS

Every Lumentrace update resets the Camera and Local Network permissions. After installing a new version, macOS treats the app as a stranger again: local cameras show up as an empty list, and Art-Net or NDI discovery finds nothing — usually with no error message.

This is not a bug in Lumentrace. macOS ties a granted permission to the exact signature of the app binary, and that signature changes with every build. Lumentrace is currently distributed with an ad-hoc signature, so the permission cannot survive an update. A paid Apple Developer ID certificate is the only fix, and it is planned.

After each update, re-grant the permissions once:

Open Lumentrace and go to the video feed setup. macOS prompts for Camera again — allow it.
Open the DMX network settings, or start an NDI source scan. macOS prompts for Local Network — allow it.

If no prompt appears, revoke the permission by hand and re-open the app: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera (and Local Network), turn Lumentrace off, then on again.

Budget a couple of minutes for this before a show — never discover it on site.

Windows

Run the .exe installer.
First launch — Windows SmartScreen may show "Windows protected your PC" because the installer is not signed with a paid certificate. Click More info, then Run anyway. This is expected and only appears once.
Follow the installer prompts, then launch Lumentrace from the Start menu.
Windows Firewall may prompt to allow network access — allow it on private networks.
